Cellulite, often described as having an “orange peel” appearance, is a common skin condition that affects nearly 90% of women, regardless of body weight or age.

But what is cellulite?

Cellulite is a condition in which the skin in certain areas appears slightly uneven and dimpled. It is caused by changes in the structure of fat cells and connective tissues that lie below the surface of the skin. These changes lead to an increase in the size of fat cells, which “push” out the connective tissue under the skin.

While cellulite is more common in women due to the distribution of fat, muscle and connective tissue, it can affect men as well.

Types of Cellulite:

Understanding the different types of cellulite is essential to choosing the most effective treatment. Cellulite is mainly categorized into four types:

Adipose Cellulite: This cellulite often looks like a soft, mobile mass under the skin and may not be as visible when you stand up as it is when you sit or press on your skin. It is usually associated with excess fat accumulation and can affect both thin and overweight people.

Edematous Cellulite: Characterized by a soft, fluid texture. Edema cellulitis is often associated with poor circulation and fluid retention. It is usually a significant challenge due to its swelling and tendency to spread over larger areas.

Fibrous Cellulite: The most persistent form, fibrous cellulite appears prominent by creating dimpled, orange-peel-like skin. This type is deeply embedded in the skin and is sometimes accompanied by slight discomfort when touched.

Nodular Cellulitis: In this type of cellulite, the fat cells gather in larger solid lobes, causing even severe pain.
